Jiffy Steamer J-2000 Residential Series Garment Steamer Review

Recently I decided to look into home steamers after discovering that we were spending over $1000 a year on dry cleaning my husband’s work clothes. I was in shock! I will admit that I like the convenience of dry cleaning (because I hate to iron!), but it’s simply too big of an expense, so that’s one convenience that had to go. Fortunately in my search I ran across the Jiffy Steamer J-2000 Residential Series Garment Steamer, which was the perfect solution for us. Below I’ll go over the details for this steamer and also share my thoughts after several months of regular use.

Overview of the Jiffy Steamer J-2000

The Jiffy Steamer J-2000 is designed for home and light commercial use and puts out a high velocity jet of steam rated at 1300 watts via the 6-inch-wide wand head. Warm up only takes about a minute before you’re ready to start steaming with the wand that’s attached to a flexible five foot hose. The steamer features a ¾ gallon removable water tank, which translates into roughly 90 minutes of continuous steaming and also includes a convenient 62-inch tall aluminum rod with a loop for hanging garments while you steam.

My Experience with the Jiffy Steamer J-2000

After owning this steamer for a few months, I’m proud to say that I haven’t sent any of my husband’s work clothes off to the dry cleaner, not a single one! It took a little while to get the technique down but once I did, the results were just as good as if his clothes had been professionally dry-cleaned. That’s quite an accomplishment, and it wouldn’t be possible without this steamer because I absolutely hate hate HATE to iron! Best of all, the Jiffy Steamer J-2000 has already paid for itself after just a few months!

It really is very easy to use, and now I even steam the clothes that we wouldn’t have bothered with before such as t-shirts, which look brand new and wrinkle free after a quick steam treatment with the wand. There are a couple catches though. The first is that while you can get knife edge creases on trousers using the steamer, you still need to finish off the collars and shoulders of shirts with an iron, but that only takes a moment. I’ve also found that it’s difficult to steam our curtains without taking them down first (they’re mounted very high and the hose for the steamer is only 5 feet long). But these were minor issues and easy to work around.

PROS

  • Rugged — as soon as I opened the box it was clear that this was made to last, all the parts are very solid and well made, so I have no doubt that it will last for years
  • Performance — it’s refreshing to purchase a product that actually does exactly what they claim it does!
  • Money saver — after several months of use, our steamer has already paid for itself and then some
  • Mobile — it’s very easy to wheel around the house on the mobile casters and then wheel right back into the closet afterwards

CONS

  • Ugly — they definitely put function over beauty when they designed this steamer, but it works and that’s what matters so this is just a minor gripe
  • Iron still required — I would love to find a completely iron free solution, but again this is just a minor inconvenience

The Bottom Line

Overall I couldn’t be happier with the Jiffy Steamer J-2000. It’s already paid for itself and looks like it will last us for years to come. Best of all, it works! After steaming my husband’s trousers and shirts, then touching up the collars and shoulders with an iron, they look like they just came back from the dry cleaners! I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone that has an aversion to ironing and wants to cut back on or eliminate their dry cleaning expenses altogether.
