Let’s face it: irons are annoying! Having to open up an ironing board and wait for the iron to heat up slowly is a chore. May be I’m being a bit over the top and I am saying it a bit “tongue in cheek”, but after reading this review of the SteamFast SF-407 1500-Watt Fabric Steamer
you may well be converted like me!

I bought the SteamFast SF-407 a bit on a whim, hoping to cut down on visits to the dry cleaner, and possibly ditch the iron. But I didn’t expect it to become a reality. I love this thing!

First of all, the SF-407 is pretty well made, lightweight and a good price. It’s a good size so it’s easy to store and the telescopic garment-hanging pole is collapsible, making the whole device pretty compact when not in use. It’s advertised as being able to heat up in 45 seconds, but that’s wrong. It’s way faster than that! It generally takes about 30 seconds to start steaming – often less time – and then gives a good 45 minutes worth of steam on the 1-¼-quart water tank.

The 1500-watt fabric steamer generally just works! It does the job it was designed to do, only far better than I ever expected. It works best on 100% cotton material but also works great on silks, jeans, men’s shirts and pretty much everything else. I can honestly say I now have no use for my iron. I’ve ditched the thing!

It’s hard to fault the SF-407 because it does it’s main job so well, so there are only a couple of things to point out. First of all, there are no brakes on the wheels, so it does tend to move around when you’re trying to use it. I’m not going to lie, this can get annoying! But it’s not a deal breaker. With a little bit of practice and technique, it’s easy enough to get around. Other than that, the only other thing I would say as a downside is that the water reservoir is a bit awkward to drain when you want to store it, but I’m just being picky here.

Here’s an overview of the SteamFast SF-407 (AKA The “Iron Replacer”):

Pros:

  • Does a great job of removing creases – it just works!
  • Heats up faster than advertised (30 seconds or less!)
  • Lightweight
  • Easy to use, assemble and store
  • Great price

Cons:

  • The water reservoir is a bit awkward to drain
  • No brakes on the wheels

As you can see, I love the SteamFast SF-407. I love it when a product just flat out works by doing what it’s designed to do, and makes your life easier. And that’s exactly what this fabric steamer does. If you’re wanting a high quality fabric steamer that will give you better results than ironing ever will, and in less time, then the SteamFast SF-407 is perfect for you. I can guarantee you won’t look back. Highly recommended!
